Our Story and Vision
We are a family owned Pennsylvania Farm Brewery, operating on a 250 year old original Colonial homestead that includes everything from its original log cabin to a one room schoolhouse. From a crystal clear spring that supports watercress and first frequented by American Indians and then the European Settlers, and in conjunction with our hop garden, we intend to produce truly local farm beer in a setting that is unique, peaceful, and inspiring to share with family and friends.
Our Brewery is on the same Farm Estate as our Vineyard Winery with 12 acres of wine grapes, an apple orchard, chickens, sheep, goats and lots of wild life, along with our growing hop garden. These two agricultural operations work together but under Pennsylvania State Law have some quirks.
The Brewery itself is housed in our Tractor Barn which had been operating on that site as a Carriage House and workhorse stalls and farm tools since the early 1800's. Unfortunately, that original building had to be raised due to its partial collapse before we acquired the farm estate. However, for 20 years the building housed the likes of John Deere, FarmAll, and Bobcat and with very minimal changes now houses Stout Tanks and Kettles, Blichmann Engineering, and the like.
We are focusing on artisan beers on the small scale in 2015 applying the principles we operated in the startup of the Internet in the 80's and 90's which are captured so well in the book Lean Startup. We applied them to our winery launch in 2014 with some success, and we will do so again with the Brewery.
We are making beers 1 or 2 barrels at a time in 2015, and enjoying (well not quite) every minute of it, and we intend to sell and serve them from our Brewery space. We'll have three beers available and rotate them season to season, and from your input and participation we'll determine what we need to do in scale and operating hours.
Bring the family, from our experience of owning and managing business's in Europe, the best Biergarten is one that has good beers and family and long standing friends.
